Background

An experienced manager with sales and operational management skills; Able to develop commercial plans for growth within existing or new business. An eye for detail, particularly in assessing financial returns and commercial decisions. I have a background working for global manufacturers with well know global brands over the past 18 years and have held various positions within these companies from sales, marketing to country director. My wife Nicki and I created Diverse Fine Food in 2013 and we’ve used this joint experience to create a new modern fine food distribution company with a difference.

What skills can you bring as a mentor?

The ability to give guidance on the market and how to set up a brand whilst considering all aspects that are needed for growth into different sectors of the industry. A strong view on the independent retail market as well as the mass market in the UK.

What do you think makes the difference between a good business and a brilliant business?

It’s always been about doing the simple things well, it’s about the extra 1%. Great businesses are created by people that believe in what they are doing and have a clear plan on how they want run their business. Developing great people, great processes and then delivering a great service or product.

If you had your time again in business, what would you do differently?

I don’t think I would do anything differently, I have worked for some great companies, both big and small, all of them have taught me great lessons in business and I have made some great friendships which also means I still have mentors that I can discuss plans and ideas for our company.
